Default First Click or Last Click (who deserves the referral?)

First Click or Last Click ?who deserves the referral?

I was fairly sure we have had this poll in the past, but the only one I found on a quick search was in an archived thread.

Based upon a recent discussion with an affiliate manager at a group I had considered joining, I thought it was time to post this poll again to get feedback from both camps.

The poll consists of a fairly simple question, of which affiliate you think deserves credit for the signup.

First Click or Last Click (see below for explanation)

First Click would assume a cookie is set, and any future visitors that arrive would not over-write the cookie and the first affiliate to send the traffic gets credit.

Last Click assumes that even though the first affiliate to send the visitor gets a cookie set, future traffic to the same casino or sportsbook sets a new cookies over-writing the previous cookie so that the affiliate that gets credit is the one that sent the visitor at the time of conversion.

Although I do have my own opinions about this, and I can likely predict the outcome of the poll results, this poll and the following discussion may help some affiliates as well as management to understand how and why we have the opinions we do.

I also always like to keep an open mind and see the other side (although I will likely not change my mind on this opinion) but it is good to hear the thoughts of others.

    Last click every time.

Why would it be fair that someone who may not even work in the industry any more and referred a player ten years ago but didn't convert them get the credit for the same player who signed up through a site they thought was helpful today?

It also means cookie stuffing is not possible.

I agree with Renee Last Click for sure..

Someone once said to me its like this ..

A Door to Door Salesman comes to your door and tries to sell you a Vacuum Cleaner .. He gives you a brochure .. Doesn't greet you well , spends like 5 minutes discussing the product and just does a poor job of selling you then leaves.

The next day another Salesman arrives selling you the same vacuum cleaner and working for the same company . he greets you well and polity .. spends time with you discussing the pros and cons of the machine . does a demo for you and just does a great job of convincing you to buy the product .. so you do ..

Why should salesman 1 get the Commission ? Just because he Knocked on the door first ?

It should be given to the one who did the job of selling you the machine .. and the same goes to affiliates credit should be given to the affiliate that drove the player to download and register and who converted the player.

Last Click, I know some bookies that deal with first clicks because they rely on the large affiliates and this is what keeps them happy.. especially odds stat type websites, There should be a list compiled somewhere as sometimes it's not always clear on who does what and a list to shame those that don't reward the person who closes a deal might get them to change their ways perhaps? I rank top 3 for a certain place and I see players getting pulled off even when my promo code is used because they are tagged to 1st click.. just a waste of my time promoting them so they have now been relegated off my site

The person who closes the sale (last referring).

If I went to a shop to buy a TV but the assistant wasn't very helpful with his knowledge of what was best for me (content), id probably go to another shop find a different assistant and if his content (sales pitch) did it for me I'd purchase there and he would deserve the commission.

    Just my two cents.

Well if you need to choose between first and last cookie, I think at least 90% would prefer last cookie.

I'm also very interested if there are affiliate programs in the gambling world that do not use first/last cookie counts but use a conversion attribution algorithm instead. I've seen a couple of non-gambling affiliate programs in the Netherlands that use that method.

There are so many ways to credit a certain affiliate a certain sale each with their own pross and cons.

Last click for me, plus 100% correct tracking, reporting and no skimming too while we're at it

Agree with the other sentiments related to the closer of the deal being the one who deserves the credit.

Last click. Although it might sound unfair in some cases. Same thing in the TV-shop. For example employee A is explaining a lot about this television and you're convinced. You just want to look at the neighbour if it isn't cheaper. It's not. So you're going back there and employee B is at the desk and you just tell him "give me that U-curved new Samsung TV of $ 6.000) and he sells it and get his commission.

Are hypothetical cases that appear perhaps 0,01%. In 99,99% of the cases last click is the most fair option so I choose for the last click!

But I realize that I do see casino's try to "cheat" with this to get a click after an affiliate did most of the work. Betsson for example.

Thinking about the 'little' time I've spent on adult tubes, I just wonder how on Earth could any casino affiliate that I click through could be the first. So many useless pop-ups and banners that I neglect can leave themselves in my precious cookies. This is just one example why I'd prefer last click.

Last Click - a bit unfair, but success is never blamed.
