Hey guys and gals, I am looking for a alternative to the Google Cloud API to use with a translation plugin. Any suggestions?

I have converted most of the WP translation plugins. A lot depends on your goals and your site. Whether it's a 1-to-1 translation and the rest stays the same or customizations for markets come into play.

I tried TranslatePress, MultilanguagePress, GtTranslate, Falang, Wegalot, Polylang and some other plugins.

The final choice fell on Polylang. Unfortunately, you have to do everything manually copy-paste.
But you get full control in return. Not over the content but over the whole site. Each language can have a different number of sub-pages and can be tailored to the market.
The work is more but it is worth it.
With others I had every now and then errors in the configuration and sometimes at a rather late stage of work which caused a big waste of time.

Great thread. I also use Deepl. The free version works well, and there's a plugin that allows you to translate much more texts than your subscription allows.

I used DeepL too, it was the most accurate translation tool I've tested.

To tell the truth, I really like ChatGPT's translation style. Whenever I have a vocabulary or pronunciation question, I turn to it - but I don't trust it blindly. I always prefer to add a personal touch to any prompt response.
