The Bill, well thought I seen it all until now. A bit in shock for introducing such a ridiculous bill that stands no chance becoming law. Actually it pissed me off I felt the urge to start campaigning against it.

Potentially far reaching consequences for U.S Citizens and possible world. The Cybersecurity Act of 2009 introduced to congress by Senators Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME) may give the U.S GOV unprecedented power over the Internet.

Once again we witness the Government’s desire to limit freedoms and infringe on our Natural Birth Rights. For all those who work and play via the Internet this surely will have profound consequences for all if it becomes Law.

Take action, rise up, be aggressive and say “no way!?br />

Hopefully it pisses off a bunch more people.

I actually expected a bit more chatter on this issue, and I pray that the relative silence does not equate apathy.

Am I missing something here? How does this affect or hurt us?

All I see in the bill is the government starting to have security strategy, actually secure federal networks, create a licensing regime for "security experts" and a yearly contest.

Can someone point out where the parts that affect our industry are?

I guess this Bill actually has nothing to do with our industry, directly...

But I have a hard time believing you're ok with "Big Brother" having absolute power over every piece of information about you and your family on any network --- public or private --- and on every computer --- public or private --- at their sole discretion... without any warrants... without any probable cause... without any checks & balances... and without any judicial review of any kind.

Why not just give them they keys to your car, hand over your ATM password, and let them put microphones in your house, too? Give them your medical records, email passwords, and browsing history. Let them read your text messages, listen to your phone calls, and watch you via your own webcam. Are you actually ok with this? Have you read any of these articles on this thing?:

Even the one article above that isn't as critical of the Bill does highlight how flawed and misguided it is. Have we all learned nothing from the passage of the UIGEA? Have we already forgotten what really motivates our government? Do you like the Patriot Act so much that you want to take it to the next level?

Ask yourself why so many Americans have never heard of this Bill before, when the people we elected to public office are supposed to be serving our best interests? A government of the people, by the people, and for the people? My ass!

I was wondering the same thing. The mere thought two Senators would even contemplate such a law is insane. I have no other words because it reaches beyond my comprehension of understanding.

In relation to our industry if this Bill became law the implications are indeed infinite. UIGEA would be blessing compared to this Bill. Imagine the Internet in the hands of the U.S Government control and this I think has everything to do with our industry.

With the exception of the car keys.. The Government already does all this and much more (It's called the 'Patiroit Act") and so far few across the Nation have stood up and complained... So I can only come to the conclusion that the vast majority of sheepeople in America want the government to intrude into their lives, watch over them 24/7(spy on them) tell them what to think and believe and tell them how to live their lives.

Doesn't the Patriot Act have an "expiration date" on it? I thought it was a temporary Bush measure that had already been extended by Congress once, so I am hoping and praying it will come up for vote again and we can get rid of the damn thing.

Meaning to revisit this thread soon as the rumors were verified. Sworn in on June 5, 2009 as one of the newest members Homeland Security Advisory Council is none other than Jeff Moss.

As some our aware I attend the annual hacking conference DefCon. Moss is the founder of both DefCon and the Black Hat hacker conferences every August. Both are done together at the Riviera Hotel Las Vegas.

Some circles are calling Moss a sell out, bought and paid for. I have no comment other than it is sad. Ironic he was sworn in at Caesar’s Palace.

Geez... I was hoping this whole thing was losing steam when there was no mention of it for a while... but I guess not. I guess we could fight it harder, but when anyone does they will be deemed "unpatriotic" by the media and a "danger" by the Feds... God forbid someone get's pissed off enough to show these bastards what a real danger is.

But hey you can still buy handguns if you’re on the Terrorist Watch List lol.

However, an official with the National Rifle Association, the leading lobbyist group that espouses gun ownership rights, said problems with the terror watch list made a broad prohibition likely to violate the rights of law-abiding citizens.

Violate the rights of law abiding citizens is what the U.S Gov would be doing if they decide to legislate the Internet or Web IMO. This whole indiscriminately spying on people just stinks.
