Default OK. I Admit It. I Need Help! (site review)

Question. Did you ever embark on a project without a clear idea of where it was going only to find that it got too big and unwieldy for you to cope? Well did you? Because that is pretty much where I am at.

This is my first post in this forum (which, let's be honest I have woefully underused) and it is a bit of a painful one. I have worked in the gambling industry for quite a number of years but about 12 months ago, during a period of inactivity, I figured that I would have a go at creating a casino affiliate website. What is more I started on a budget of ?$/€ Next2Nothing!.

Basically I am a content creator. I write copy and have done a fair body of work for operator and affiliate sites. However, website design and SEO etc are totally out of my skill set. I can read though. Anyway, I started a project but probably did not put as much work in as I would have liked due to unforeseen obstacles during the year. Now I am playing catch up and it is tough. I am one person and the work that I have set myself is just too much for me alone.

So, by way of getting to the point. I need help. Possibly a mentor. Possibly a partner. Possibly a team. Maybe even all three! I have done the best that I can with the resources available to me and even though my site looks quite pretty (I think) it isn't much of an earner. At the risk of making myself look like a total knob, I am putting it out there. I really need some assistance or advice to help me go to the next level. I know that I am making mistakes (lack of planning be the most obvious) but I guess I need someone else to point them out for me. I do understand that I should start by checking into this forum much more regularly.

Anyway, my website is named Ken Slots (not sure if I am allowed to post that) advice would be great, but what I really need is someone (preferably UK based) to help take the pressure off.

Thanks for listening. Feel free to DM me!

I added the link and moved your post to the appropriate forum for site reviews.

Having a history of content creation, will be greatly helpful to you in the end, sure you will want to follow standard seo practices, but content is key and with a quick look it appears you are off to a good start. There will be more extensive site reviews in the coming days.

    Hi Ken,

Looks like you've done a pretty good job to begin with.

You can do it alone - the way to eat an Elephant is one bite at a time. You're probably at that stage where you're overwhelmed with how much more you need to do immediately, to make your site a success. The good news is you don't have to do everything, you've done the hard work and got the foundations in place. You only need a few of your pages rank well to start making money, so that is where you should concentrate your efforts, as well as probably getting a health check on what you've done so far.

My advice, keep away from the big terms, find long tails keywords that have traffic that you can rank for and concentrate there. Once you have traffic, you'll get income, once that happens the more work you put in the more you'll get out. Oh and make sure your content is different and better than what your competitors are producing - make it interesting and informative.

    Good luck.

nwalker Thanks for the advice. Some good tips there. I took a look at your site too. Really excellent site. Coming from a land based casino background I have a greater appreciation for the live dealer casino product in general. Your site is as comprehensive as it gets and really well put together. However it kind of made me think that for me to get to a similar point I would have to spend a couple of years working full time on my site leaving me little time for anything else. At this moment in time that is simply not viable. Which is why I reached out for help I guess.

If I don’t maximize my browser window, the site loads a bit weird with the text all squashed up against the left-hand side in the top banner. Other than that, I feel almost overwhelmed by the sheer amount of stuff on the homepage, but it loads fast and it looks great. Btw, I could tell you are a copywriter from the first sentence I read from you—you’re all set with respect to content

    Hi Ken

OK I think the problem is...you're looking for 'physical' help with this...and what you're going to find is that while you'll possibly get a lot of written advice, anyone here who knows (or half knows) what they're doing is going to be so tied up in their own sites that spending the amount of time needed to put yours right is going to be difficult if not impossible.

Time is a big issue as you've found, for multiple reasons. Time to write, time to think, time to order it all, time to learn how to structure it all (for readability, EAT, SEO etc etc etc), time to solve the technical issues, site speed (if Google do what they say they're going to do in April/May it could cause mayhem). I could go on and on (and on).

.....and you don't have that time right. I think that's what you're saying.

In which case it's possible that no amount of written advice here is going to help, and you're really only going to sensibly go forward by the team/mentor idea.

And those have obvious problems (if they're not obvious say so and I'll try to spell them out. Maybe they're only obvious from personal direct experience). You might find someone who's already cracked it and is feeling philanthropic, but probably highly unlikely.

Having said all that, here are some thoughts that might help.....

You went too broad (which I think you already know)
KenSlots? With a strapline of 'online slots games rated by Ken'. So why throw in lotteries and bingo. You created a (too) broad subject, but your initial message suggests that isn't/wasn't going to be your focus.

But that's done. And no obvious point in wasting the content.

So (as nwalker said/implied) you can only go forward by focusing and taking it a bit at a time.

Decide which area to focus on (I'd suggest slots). Park the bingo and lotteries. Debatably you can weave in all the other casino stuff. Review the structure, map it out, identify what's missing. Review what you have already, restructure it where necessary, build the new stuff.

The good news....You can clearly write.

But some stuff is not right. Just a few examples.....

On the video slots page...a description in German? Other pages have currency as Euros?? So who's your target? I'd have said UK. You need to get consistency.

On the live dealers page. It's keyword stuffed and will never rank in that form. Any pages that are just rows of slots images that link to casinos will never rank (well not without a substantial amount of trickery and/or very high authority on the site in general).

If you want to know what you should be aiming at have a look at CasinoWhizz, though there will be other members sites here too that are equally strong. Mine not included BTW, it needs a ton of work still to be anywhere near acceptable!!

However you cut all this up (and I know you know this already) there is a lot to do to get yours in a better state. I'm happy to have a chat and try to give you some other pointers, just PM if you want to talk and I'll send a mobile number. I'm in the midlands.

Thanks for that. Could you DM me a screenshot of the top banner thing. If it is possible. Nice words too, appreciate it.

Some good points here. Not so sure I should have quoted it all lol! I totally get your point about Bingo and Lottery. Reason is that it started out as a lottery site and I wrote quite a bit a content with that in mind. I actually first released the site under a completely different URL. Eventually I opted to change it over to a casino site as that is my background. Didn't want to lose the Lottery content and the affiliate relationships so I kept them. Bingo was bit of a vanity thing though. I began working with an operator that has both Casino and Bingo products so figured I might assimilate them. Going forward neither of those verticals will be my focus though.

The live casino page is still under construction so much more content to be added there. That should thin out the keywords and add more relevance and focus. As for the German (and Russian!) I just figured it looked cool. Perhaps my reasoning wasn't great there. However, I am beginning to use geo-targeting (well planning it anyway) so that could be more meaningful eventually. I still need to read up on this of course.

In the Midlands eh! I am from Birmingham so that is nice to hear. I will be in touch sometime next week in all likelihood.

    All the best!

I have updated my site kenslots.com so would appreciate you guys having another look. Nothing dramatic just a few minor tweaks to make it look cleaner. I think it is better. What do you guys think?

Only got time to look at home page right now but looks good overall and loaded quickly enough (on desktop)

Red on black text part way down is not the best for reading

In this section....Other online casinos worth your consideration… it kind of hits you so hard with the options all close together that it's possible some visitors would just glaze over

First, I like the site. Its neat.

    Few things:

    1. Those images on top with girls - i can barely read what is there as the text mixes with the image.
    2. Why you have Poland casinos there? Any particular reason?
    3. Forum - i assume you spoke about it or someone mentioned it here before - not an easy thing. Something to consider as it is time consuming and can have negative effects as well I'm guessing.

In general, i like the site. Think with some patience it will work for you.

Things that jump out at me:

The site lazy loads, but as I scroll I see images loading/jumping. Google doesn't like this. Adjust the LL settings, use different LL code, use more optimized images, or some combination there of to fix it.

The contrast on the text at the top with all the females emitting emotions of joy is far far far from optimal. I also think the images themselves are tacky and I would ditch them for something else personally.

Your site is almost certainly failing the new Google Core Vitals tests, you should correct that.

Yeah I see where you are coming from but I am limited by the constraints of the theme package. I did bin the red text on black though. I actually thought it looked cool

Lot to take in there! Get it about the females but I am limited as to what I can do visually as I have no graphic design skills and very limited budget. But hey anyway, casinos are by nature tacky!

Not a clue as to what Google core values are.

I changed the photos at the top. When I looked at it again I could see you were right. I am planning a whole series of articles on different jurisdictions. The forum is a regret to be honest. Populated by crazy Russian spammers! It hasn't really worked for me as of now. May persevere for a few more weeks and see what happens, but it is a headache.
