Sports Interaction’s betting analyst Al Dannity looks ahead to the Final Four, which takes place in Houston this weekend.
Four programs with very different backgrounds converge on Houston this weekend for the culmination of March Madness. The Final Four features a familiar mid-major, an out-of-nowhere Cinderella, College Basketball royalty, and a program forged by a big-name coach.
Butler, the familiar mid-major, isn’t the dominant Cinderella story this year. Instead that role goes to the VCU Rams. VCU have charged from the First Four to the Final Four and captured the attention of College Basketball betting fans everywhere. The Rams have played like an elite outfit during the tournament, despite being sub-par defensively in the regular season. Shaka Smart’s chaos-based defense has come up big time however in March. While VCU still suffer on the boards, the Rams have proven far more adept at making opponents miss shots. That coupled with outstanding three-point shooting on their part makes them a dangerous opponent for Butler.
While VCU may have dispatched big names like Kansas, Georgetown, and Purdue in previous rounds, I think they will struggle against the Bulldogs. Butler simply don’t rely on the same kind of accuracy on offense as the big name opponents the Rams beat earlier in the tournament. The Bulldogs are however an impeccable defensive unit when it comes to pressuring shots. Butler will make VCU work for the win in this game and I see no more than a few points separating the sides. For all the success I expect Butler to have on defense, I still don’t see it being enough to stop the Rams. VCU should be able to put enough points on the board to take the win. Bet on the VCU Rams as +2.5 underdogs and win big with Sports Interaction.
Jim Calhoun has single-handedly built Connecticut into a national powerhouse. On Saturday the Huskies go up against one of the all-time great programs in the former of Kentucky. UConn have claimed two national titles in the 13 years since the Wildcats last made the Final Four but John Calipari’s team are deservedly favorites for this match-up. The Wildcats have beaten some elite outfits en route to Houston, including Ohio State and North Carolina. That doesn’t lessen UConn’s achievements with Kemba Walker and company riding a nine-game winning streak into the Final Four. This game promises to be heavy on offense. While the Wildcats have beaten some big guns, there simply isn’t a more cold-blooded assassin in the game than Walker. Bet on the Connecticut Huskies to win big as +2.5 underdogs with Sports Interaction.
