Lightbulb Are videos good/ bad or not important for seo?

    Hello,

Does having a own Youtube video which is linked back and integrated in a Post makes your website more attractive for google ?

For example If I put a random video in my article OR a self made youtube video which is linked to the exact webiste article in the video description, do you guys think google is noticing that and rewards or no effect?

    Thank you!

In some cases, it is effective. The criteria to be determined is whether video or shopping and images have priority in google search results.

Not really, i see soem big sites usign them but low view amounts.. is that work worth the time and effort? I like many others still prefer to read reviews than watch videos. even if its movies, video games perhaps with a short clip for visuals

It's not even about what Google notices. Users will organically become more interested in this, and because of this Google can move a post with video

Well, videos are another way of engaging with the users which leads to reducing the bounce rate and increasing the Avg Time spent on page which is a good signal for google.

If 10% of your visitors click the video, that 10% of users help reducing the bounce rate.

One tip : users don't want to watch 10 mins videos, make them short and effective (2-3 mins max)

As you know, Google has several pages of search results, this includes videos. When the user clicks on the link, it doesn't go to the YouTube video, but to the page where google found the video. This is another channel for getting organic traffic. A big plus, as mentioned above, is that users can stay on your site longer and watch the video. I think you can get some plus for promotion, because you didn't just write the text, you also made the video. You did your best to cover the topic in full, which Google loves)

It can in some instances slow the website down if you embedd too many videos on a page.

I believe they help, if the videos don't slow down your website.

Short videos are the way to go in my opinion.

Videos do help definitely, yet they do also slow down your website.
I did a small experiment with this, perhaps someone might find it interesting.

Here's a graph of my "video" clicks from google.

The part where it's dead, is the part where I "optimized" videos - they were still on the page, but didn't slow it down. They were also not idexed as a result of that.

Website speed wen way up, but if you compare the video clicks graph with web click graph - you will not see any improvement in clicks based on the improved website speed.

So as a result here, I removed videos and increased website speed - I lost about 200 monthly video clicks and didn't gain any "web" clicks.

Reasonably conclusive then, from that test. Although there would be a bunch of other variables to consider.

And there have been many indicators that speed (or speed-related measurements) is/are being ignored as a ranking factor currently. These results would appear to confirm that.

    But....

The potential problem is...you leave videos on a page slowing it down...and one day (in a month, 3 months, 6 months, 2 years) G press a button that says 'right, from now on, any site that isn't Amazon, the BBC, the NY Times, etc etc etc, and that doesn't pass CWV...delete it from index forever).

Seems beyond doubt that they'd be able to do that technically.

But would they actually do it??

Videos are great and work fine, if you have the budget to produce them that is the question. I am old fashioned and still like the call-to-action creatives. Personally, I simply do not have the time to watch videos, only the informative APCW from J.Todd.
